Located in the heart of Houston at 1834 Westheimer Rd, Paulie’s Italian restaurant has won over the hearts of many locals with its delightful and authentic Italian cuisine. Since its inception in the '90s by the Petronella family and under the helm of Chef Paulie Petronella, the restaurant has become a cherished destination for pasta enthusiasts.
Reviews highlight the generous serving sizes, with many patrons noting that a full portion is enough for multiple meals. Signature dishes, like the fettuccine Alfredo and spaghetti and meatballs, have received rave reviews for their flavorful sauces and perfectly cooked pasta. Aminda Martinez praised the light alfredo sauce, while a diner referred to the homemade San Marzano tomato sauce as rich and savory.
The vegetable soup is another crowd favorite, boasting thick-cut veggies and a rustic, homemade broth that reviewers have called “one of the best veggie soups” they’ve ever tasted. A must-try when in season is their tomato basil soup, which has garnered a cult-like following.
Despite its counter-service style, which some found to detract from the fine dining experience, the overall consensus is that the excellent quality of food and inviting atmosphere make this hidden gem in Houston a top choice for authentic Italian fare. Don't miss out—visit Paulie’s for a delicious culinary adventure!

I got the fettuccine Alfredo and added chicken. It was spectacular! Sauce was so light and so delicious. The bread on the side was great, too. Loved it all!

Serving size is massive. A full serving is literally a pound of pasta. Unless you are planning to make three meals with it, get a half portion. The quality of the food was fine dining quality but for the quality of the food, the buzzers and picking up your plate cheapen the experience. Just hire wait staff!

You must try this gem if you have never been! We absolutely love Paulie’s and have been coming, every week, for years. It was started by the Petronella family back in the 90’s and named for their son who now is the Chef and GM. Amazing pasta selections, great salads, even the panini are awesome! My favorite tomato basil soup ever, unfortunately it’s seasonal so just have to get it when it’s available. Just for try this place! Parking isn’t great but it’s so worth it!!!

Absolutely one of, if not the absolute best Italian restaurants in Houston. We stopped in on a Tuesday night after seeing great reviews online for Paulie's. Upon arrival, there is a private parking lot behind the restaurant that was easy and convenient to park in. When we walked inside the restaurant, we took note of the pleasant and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant is counter-service style and very convenient to order and find a table. The menu is wonderful with plenty of selections without being overwhelming. We ordered vegetable soup, pesto pasta with chicken, spaghetti and meatballs, and Canestri and Broccoli (shells with oil/garlic/parmesean, and broccoli with chicken). We also ordered iced tea and ginger lemonade as well. The ginger lemonade and iced tea was very good, fresh, and not too sweet. The vegetable soup was rustic, homemade, and had an amazing broth. The soup was full of thick cut veggies (carrots, celery, potatoes, red peppers, corn, and green beans). This was one of the absolute best veggie soups I've ever had, and 7 for a large bowl is a great value. The spaghetti and meatballs was VERY good. The sauce is a homemade San Marzano tomato sauce. Very rich flavor without too much acidity. The meatballs were moist, tender, flavorful, and not overly spiced. The pasta was cooked perfectly. The pesto was extremely fresh and bright with very clean and light flavors and a delicious olive oil base. The kalamata olives were a very nice touch, and the grilled chicken was cooked to perfectly. Nice crispy pan seared outside and so moist and tender inside. Again, the pasta was cooked perfectly. The Canestri and Brocccoli (shells with olive oil/parmesean/garlic with broccoli and chicken) was absolutely out of this world. One of the best pasta dishes I've ever had in my life. Dripping with flavor without being too heavy. Again, the pasta and chicken were both cooked perfectly. The meals came with garlic bread, which was very nice. Not overwhelming with garlic and cooked perfectly. Such a nice compliment to the meals. We finished up with a mocha latte and some of their homemade Easter shortbread cookies. Excellent latte, with beautiful flavor and not too sweet. The shortbread Easter cookies were absolutely incredible. Mindblowingly good how buttery and tasty these are. The price for dinner 3 people without alcohol was around 77 and another 12 for the coffee and cookies (all not counting tip). Overall, this is truly a hidden gem of Houston. If you want REALLY good Italian food at a VERY good price, and in the greater Houston area, this is the #1 place to go, period.

You definitely can't go wrong with this little gem of a restaurant. From the Petronella family...you get the best mix of Italian and American cuisine Houston has to offer. I eat here religiously every week and enjoy their food. You must..must have their tomato basil soup....when in season!!! Go..just go and eat!!

We came here today because we went to Nonno’s (mentioned on the James Beard semi-finalist list) first and the music was too loud. So we came to Paulie’s instead. We were able to order immediately and found a comfy table. The food came while we enjoyed beverages. The food was amazing!!! This place is family friendly casual dining at its best!!!

The chicken piccata dish was beautifully presented, and extremely delicious. The sauce was very complimentary to the pasta, which was enjoyable. This dish was so good, my mom and I ordered two full servings of this! We will be back again as the atmosphere was eclectic and beautifully decorated.

Best caesar salad of my life i tell ya. Light dressing and so flavorful. This restaurant turned a simple side salad into a delicacy, I’m still thinking about it two days later. The pasta was also delicious! Definitely a new favorite Italian spot, and in such a cute part of town, too!
